Storage in Slough
Storage here is not a room you rent and drive to. It is the middle stage of a move: your things collected by the crew, listed as they are loaded, held while you are between addresses, and brought back when you say. In a town this driven by tenancy ends and relocation dates, it is less an extra than a normal part of the plan.
A high share of Slough moves need it. Very few people expect to when they first enquire.
What the arrangement is
This versus a self-storage unit
A self-storage unit is a room you rent with a key you keep. You take your things there yourself or pay someone to, and you can walk in whenever the building is open. That suits somebody who needs frequent access to things they are actively using — a trader with stock, a business with files in circulation.
What we do is the other trade. The crew loads at your door, the goods travel and stay as loaded, and access is by arrangement rather than casual. You save two handlings and a lot of carrying; you give up walking in on a Sunday.
For a household between two addresses, ours is nearly always the better answer. For a business needing weekly access, a unit probably wins, and we will say so.
Why Slough needs it more than most towns
Two reasons, and both are local. First, the rental share: tenancy ends and new starts routinely do not meet, so there is a gap by default rather than by accident.
Second, the airport. A great deal of movement here is people starting or ending a posting, and in those moves the date is fixed by an employer while the housing is confirmed late. Goods arrive in the country, or have to leave a property, before anyone knows where they are finally going.
Both situations have the same shape: a certain date at one end and an uncertain one at the other. Holding the goods is simply the sane response to that.
What to keep out
The mistake people make is putting everything in. If your belongings are going away for a while you need a genuine living kit with you: clothes for this season and the next, work equipment, chargers, documents, medication, anything a child will ask for.
We go through that before loading and write it down, because getting one box back out of a held load is an arrangement, and doing it three times is an expensive way to find a winter coat.
Business storage
Stock, records and office furniture during a refit or a move between units, on the same listed basis. For records in particular the inventory matters more than the space does — knowing precisely what was taken and what came back is usually the point.

How much space will I need?
More than you would guess. We measure at survey rather than asking you to estimate, and if the survey gets it wrong the arrangement is adjusted rather than you paying for air.

How long can you hold things?
For as long as the gap runs. The terms, including any notice needed for redelivery, are set out in your booking contract in writing before you commit.

Can I get at my things?
With notice, yes. If you already know you will need particular items, say so at loading and we will keep those reachable instead of burying them.

Are stored goods insured?
Cover and its exclusions are stated in the booking contract. Declare anything unusually valuable at survey so it is handled and covered properly rather than discovered afterwards.

What cannot go in?
Anything hazardous or perishable — fuel, gas, chemicals, food, plants. You get the full list before collection.

Can goods go from storage straight abroad?
Yes, and it is a common sequence on relocations. The export file is built against the inventory written at your property, so the customs list is accurate because it was made where the goods were.
