The garage is what changes the number

Slough housing stock is generous with storage. Interwar and postwar semis across Cippenham, Britwell and Farnham Royal came with garages and sheds, and forty years later most of them are full of things nobody has looked at since.

That matters because a quote is built from volume, and a garage nobody mentioned is the single most common reason a quoted figure and a final invoice end up different. Cippenham and the postwar estates are the straightforward case. Drives, wide roads, verges that take the weight, and rooms that furniture fits through. These are the fastest surveys we do and the most predictable days.

Upton and the Herschel Park conservation area are the opposite end: Victorian villas, narrower frontages, mature trees over the carriageway. Vehicle height is worth checking there, which is not something you need to think about anywhere else in the town.

Chalvey and the dense terraced streets have almost no on-street space to spare, so the question becomes where we can legally stop and how far things have to be carried. Town centre and Langley flats are a third case again — a lift booking, a loading bay, and a managing agent who wants notice.

How the day is ordered

Packing first, whether that is us shortly before or you over the preceding weeks. Then protection goes down. Loading runs heaviest and hardest-wearing first, with whatever you will want that first night going on last so it comes off first.

At the other end we unload to rooms, rebuild what we took apart, and take the packing materials away if you want them gone. You should not be left signing for a hallway full of cartons.

When the chain slips
